"Hey! Boss Martians are back with another power-pop masterpiece.
Think the Briefs, Ramones and Cheap Trick rolled into one happy
mess."
- Punk Planet
"The Set-Up by the Boss Martians is one of the best
records of the year: I AM YOUR RADIO - Coolest Song
of the Year."
- Little Steven (Little Steven's Underground Garage)
"...this album ("The Set-Up") is fucking fantastic!"
- MAXIMUMROCKANDROLL
Power-Pop & Garage-Punk Get Hitched! Produced by Johnny Sangster
(Young Fresh Fellows, Supersuckers, Mudhoney) and mixed by Jack
Endino (Nirvana, Zen Guerrilla, Hot Hot Heat), "The Set-Up" is
the Boss Martians’ most accomplished record, integrating all
aspects of the band’s musical personalities: power-pop, garage,
punk and hard rock.
The album's 13 songs feature Evan Foster's muscular vocals
(compared to Small Faces' Steve Marriott, the Buzzcocks' Pete
Shelley, Elvis Costello and Thin Lizzy's Phil Lynott) and his
stellar Cheap Trick-meets-punk guitar-playing, as well as Nick
C.'s Hammond, synth and Vox-Jaguar keyboard work (he's the Jon
Lord of the garage-punk scene!). "The Set-Up" spotlights the
band's best material to date. Songs such as the anthemic "I Am
Your Radio," the pining pop love letter "Oh, Angela" and the
frenzied "Kill My Telephone" are instant power-pop classics,
while the Angus-and-Malcolm-inspired "Stress Case," the electric
and catchy "I Wanna Be Your Addiction" and the assailing title
track break new garage-punk ground.
With "The Set-Up," the Boss Martians nail their reputation as
one of the best rock ‘n’ roll bands on the scene today.
